Punjab to Launch E-Taxi Scheme, 30 E-Taxis Reserved for Women

The Punjab government is set to launch the E-Taxi Scheme 2025, a major initiative to promote eco-friendly transport and create new jobs for youth. In the first phase, 1,100 electric taxis will be distributed on interest-free loans, reducing financial burden on drivers. These vehicles will be locally assembled by Dewan Motors, boosting Pakistan’s electric vehicle industry.

A special feature of the plan is that 30 e-taxis will be reserved exclusively for women drivers, ensuring safer and more inclusive public transport. The scheme also prioritizes women, differently-abled individuals, and rural communities, giving them equal opportunities to participate.

To support the project, a wide network of charging stations will be established across Punjab, making it easier for drivers to operate electric taxis without worry. Officials say the scheme will cut pollution, lower fuel costs, and provide a cleaner, greener, and more equitable transport system for all.
