PTA Warns Public About New WhatsApp Scam Targeting Users in Pakistan

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a strong warning to WhatsApp users in Pakistan after reports of a growing scam involving fake messages. These messages, often carrying the official WhatsApp logo, claim that a user’s account has problems or that they have violated platform rules. Victims are then urged to click on a link to resolve the issue.

According to PTA, these links are highly dangerous as they can steal personal details, banking information, or even take over entire accounts. Once compromised, scammers may misuse the account to spread more fake messages or commit fraud.

PTA has advised users to avoid clicking on suspicious links, immediately block the sender, and report the fake account directly to WhatsApp. For added protection, people should enable two-step verification, which makes it much harder for hackers to break in.

Officials stressed that WhatsApp’s official team never asks users to share passwords or click on random links. They urged citizens to remain alert, verify any unusual message before taking action, and strengthen their privacy settings.

By staying informed and cautious online, users can protect themselves and help stop the spread of such digital scams in Pakistan.
