The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has launched a new facility that allows overseas Pakistanis and short-term visitors to register their mobile phones without paying any FBR tax for up to 120 days per visit.
This initiative is aimed at easing the burden on Pakistanis living abroad who return home for vacations, family events, or business trips. Instead of paying heavy taxes or facing service disruptions, travelers can now register their devices through an automated and hassle-free system completely free of charge.

The service ensures uninterrupted mobile connectivity during a visitor’s stay and eliminates the need to pay customs duties on personal phones. PTA clarified that the facility is only for personal use and applies to a 120-day period starting from the date of arrival in Pakistan.
Officials believe this step will help overseas Pakistanis stay connected without financial strain. It also streamlines the process for temporary device use, especially for travelers who rely on smartphones for navigation, banking, or communication with family.
The system is fully digital and user-friendly, requiring only a few simple steps to activate the tax-free period. This move reflects PTA’s broader efforts to improve digital accessibility and provide convenient services for citizens abroad while supporting seamless connectivity for all visitors.
