Elon Musk’s Starlink is moving closer to officially launching its services in Pakistan, marking a significant milestone for the country’s digital future. The company has already registered itself with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) under the name “Starlink Internet Services (Private) Limited”, signaling its serious intent to enter the local market.
As part of its expansion plan, Starlink has applied to establish 2–3 ground stations in Pakistan. These ground stations will serve as the backbone for providing internet through low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, which are designed to deliver high-speed, low-latency internet even in regions where traditional infrastructure struggles to reach. Currently, the proposal is under review by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and other regulatory bodies, which are assessing its technical feasibility and compliance with national laws.
If approved, this development could be a game-changer for Pakistan’s internet landscape. Starlink’s technology has the potential to connect remote and underserved areas that remain out of reach for fiber-optic and cellular networks. However, before operations begin, Starlink will need to comply with Pakistan’s National Satellite Policy 2023 as well as the upcoming Pakistan Space Activities Rules 2024.
