The Urumqi Tianshan International Airport has received its first consignment of fresh seafood imports from Pakistan in two years, marking the reopening of its designated inspection site for inbound aquatic products.
The shipment, weighing 1,292 kilograms, arrived aboard China Southern Airlines flight CZ6008 from Islamabad. It included a variety of foods such as black pomfret, prawns, hairtail, and grouper.

According to officials, the successful delivery followed two months of coordination between importers, customs authorities, and airport management.
Pakistan’s deep-sea fisheries are known for producing high-quality seafood, which continues to gain popularity among Chinese consumers. The resumption of imports through Urumqi highlights the growing importance of cold chain infrastructure in facilitating cross-border trade.
Analysts say the reopening of this route not only strengthens regional trade connectivity but also creates fresh opportunities for Pakistani seafood exporters to expand in the Chinese market.
