Lahore, Pakistan Tetra Pak Pakistan Limited and Bulleh Shah Packaging (Private) Limited (BSP) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a commercially viable collection and recycling value chain for used beverage cartons (UBCs) in Pakistan.
This collaboration will strengthen the recycling ecosystem by activating BSP’s existing collection hubs, expanding the network with new stakeholders, and deploying UBC champions and digital tools to ensure efficiency and transparency.

Transforming Waste Into Assets
The partnership is designed to scale up the collection, transportation, and recycling capacity of UBCs through alliances with waste management companies and scrap dealers. A critical element of the initiative is the use of Tetra Pak’s digital platforms for real-time reporting, ensuring traceability and turning discarded cartons into trackable assets.
By introducing digital transparency, the initiative aims to improve pricing, operational efficiency, and accountability across the recycling chain a model that could reshape Pakistan’s approach to sustainable waste management.
Leaders Speak on the Initiative
Awais Bin Nasim, Managing Director, Tetra Pak Pakistan Limited, said:
“This partnership with Bulleh Shah Packaging marks a significant step toward building a circular economy in Pakistan. By combining our technical expertise and industry networks, we aim to scale up carton recycling across the country, reduce reliance on imported fiber, and create long-term value for the environment and communities engaged in the waste value chain.”
Nasir Zaman, CEO of Bulleh Shah Packaging, added:
“We are excited to work closely with Tetra Pak on this initiative to strengthen Pakistan’s recycling infrastructure. By utilizing recovered fibers from used beverage cartons, we can produce sustainable packaging materials locally, reduce dependence on imported raw materials, and create meaningful social impact by supporting the livelihoods of those in the waste collection chain.”
Local Production, Global Impact
BSP will process recovered fibers from UBCs to manufacture recycled paper-based packaging products such as liner, fluting, and kraft. This reduces dependency on imported Old Corrugated Carton (OCC) fiber and contributes to a self-reliant, environmentally sustainable packaging industry.
Shared Commitment to Sustainability
This collaboration reflects Tetra Pak and BSP’s shared commitment to:
- Environmental sustainability by reducing waste and emissions
- Resource efficiency through recycling and local fiber production
- Community impact by improving livelihoods in the waste collection sector
By creating a structured and transparent recycling model, the two organizations are paving the way for a smarter, greener, and more sustainable Pakistan.
