Karachi was hit by torrential monsoon rains on Tuesday, prompting authorities to declare a city-wide rain emergency. At least seven people lost their lives in incidents of electrocution and wall collapses.
Rainfall totals soared across the city. Gulshan-e-Hadeed recorded about 170 mm, while Airport Old Area saw 158.5 mm, and Jinnah Terminal, Nazimabad, and Surjani Town measured between 145 mm and 153 mm.

Other affected areas included Saadi Town with 176 mm, Korangi 132 mm, North Karachi 144 mm, and Defence Phase VII at 134 mm, marking some of the highest figures of the season.
The heavy rains crippled much of the city: long power outages, submerged roads, stalled traffic, and widespread urban flooding followed within hours.
Officials urged residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. Emergency services and rescue teams were placed on high alert under the rain emergency plan.
Weather forecasts warn of more showers into Wednesday and beyond, raising the risk of further flooding and damage across the city.
This latest weather crisis adds to a devastating monsoon season that has already caused hundreds of deaths and widespread destruction across Pakistan since late June.
