Islamabad, Pakistan — ezBike, a vertically-integrated electric mobility startup, has successfully raised $1 million in pre-seed funding to accelerate the transition to Electric Vehicles (EVs) in Pakistan. The round included participation from i2i Ventures, Walled City, GroundUp, and leading angel investors in the United States — including a prominent tech billionaire.
Building Pakistan’s Electric Mobility Ecosystem
The funding will be utilized to create a comprehensive EV ecosystem for electric two-wheelers. Plans include:
- Establishing an electric scooter assembly facility
- Setting up low-cost lithium-ion battery production
- Expanding a nationwide battery swapping network
ezBike will begin selling electric scooters this summer and aims to pilot its solution with one of Pakistan’s top delivery companies.
From Scooter Sharing to Market Transformation
Founded by Mohammad Hadi (former investment banker) and Ali Moeen (software executive), ezBike initially launched as Pakistan’s first electric scooter sharing service. Since then, it has onboarded 100,000+ customers in Islamabad, becoming a household brand and proving the demand for green, affordable transport.
According to CEO Hadi:
“With 22 million legacy motorcycles, Pakistan represents a $20B market opportunity for electric two-wheelers. Rising petrol prices and severe air pollution make this transition urgent. Our proprietary solution allows consumers to purchase scooters at 80% of petrol motorcycle prices and operate them at 50% of the cost. This will revolutionize the market.”
Operational Expertise Since 2020
Co-founder and CTO/COO Ali Moeen emphasized ezBike’s experience:
“Since 2020, we’ve assembled, operated, and maintained scooters and battery swapping stations at scale. This gives us a unique advantage to drive the EV transition with proprietary hardware, software, and operational expertise.”
Tackling Climate Change & Pollution
Pakistan faces a climate and air pollution emergency, ranked the 2nd worst globally for air quality. The World Bank estimates pollution-related economic losses of over $1 billion annually. With 65% of emissions from transport — and motorcycles being the worst offenders — replacing just one petrol motorcycle with an electric scooter can cut 300kg of carbon emissions each year.
Investor Support
- Misbah Naqvi (i2i Ventures):
“We are proud to back the ezBike founders as they tackle pollution and climate change, while offering affordable electric scooters to Pakistani consumers.”
- Anees Khawaja (Walled City | GroundUp syndicate):
“Ali and Hadi have shown tremendous vision and grit in pioneering Pakistan’s electric mobility industry, and we are excited to partner with them.”
Driving Towards Pakistan’s 2030 EV Goals
Pakistan’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) call for 30% of all new vehicles sold by 2030 to be EVs. Supportive government policies are in place, and ezBike’s holistic approach to building a scooter ecosystem positions it as a major contributor toward this target.
