CDA Targets 3 Month Completion for Rs.1.4 Billion T-Chowk Flyover in Islamabad

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has taken a major step toward easing traffic congestion in Islamabad by officially opening bids for the construction of the long-awaited T-Chowk flyover. Valued at Rs. 1.4 billion, the project is set to transform one of the busiest intersections of the city, where GT Road meets the Islamabad Expressway.

Among the firms that submitted proposals, Habib Construction Services (HCS) in collaboration with ZKB emerged as the lowest bidder, offering a rate around two percent less than the estimated cost. With this competitive bid, the consortium is expected to secure the contract and begin work shortly after formal approval.

According to CDA officials, the flyover will span 570 meters and provide direct access for Lahore-bound traffic merging onto the Islamabad Expressway. Additionally, a dedicated slip road is part of the design to streamline vehicles heading toward Lahore, ensuring smoother flow and minimizing bottlenecks at this critical junction.

If construction proceeds as scheduled, CDA expects the project to be completed within three to five months. Officials emphasized that once operational, the flyover will provide significant relief to commuters, benefitting an estimated 100,000 motorists daily by cutting down waiting times and reducing long-standing congestion.

The project is being highlighted as part of CDA’s broader infrastructure development drive, which aims to modernize Islamabad’s road network in response to the city’s growing traffic challenges. Officials have reiterated their commitment to delivering projects efficiently and within ambitious timelines, ensuring maximum public benefit.

In a related development, CDA is also preparing to launch another major project — the Shaheen Chowk underpass, valued at Rs. 1.3 billion. Bids for this project will be opened next week. Located at the intersection of Ninth Avenue and Khayaban-i-Iqbal/Margalla Road, the underpass is designed to reduce congestion by enabling uninterrupted traffic flow beneath the busy junction.

The underpass will not only allow vehicles to bypass the traffic signal but also feature a top slab connecting with the service road, further improving circulation. This combination of structural design and traffic engineering is expected to significantly enhance mobility across the area.

Together, the T-Chowk flyover and Shaheen Chowk underpass mark a major step forward in Islamabad’s urban planning. By focusing on timely completion and long-term traffic solutions, CDA is positioning these projects as milestones in building a modern, efficient, and commuter-friendly capital city.
