CDA Approves Electric Tram for Islamabad

Islamabad is set to introduce an electric tram service as part of the Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) plan to modernize and green the city’s transport system. A meeting chaired by Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa approved a detailed study to assess the feasibility of electric trams, alongside upgrades to the existing bus network.

The project includes modern trams with user-friendly designs, smart ticketing, advertising options inside buses, and the installation of 200+ digital bus stops. Currently, Islamabad’s electric bus service is already benefiting over 90,000 passengers daily, and the addition of trams is expected to make travel even more convenient, affordable, and environmentally friendly.

The CDA emphasized partnerships with private companies to ensure financial stability and smooth operations. By integrating eco-friendly transport solutions, the authority aims to build a cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable public transport system for the capital.
